This portrait from life uses the Zorn palette of limited colours reminiscent of 19th century Impressionist painting. The approach is employed here to put focus on the tonal values of the subject and evoke a sense of time and place, but also to bring attention to the constituent elements of the image. The work also uses traditional atelier figurative painting methods to shift emphasis from stylistic expression and to foreground instead the interaction between the artist and the model.
