Still life study of a cast of a sculpture of a female head, as part of atelier training. The painting seeks to explore idealised form and examine the lineage of antique art. Using contrasting colour temperatures and heightened light effects the image plays with the surface quality of a sculpture tradition typified by its deeper meaning. The subtly planar appearance of the subject hints at geometric shapes, or 'Platonic solids', the classical building blocks of creation. The resulting holographic effect seeks to take an academic study and create a painting with layered readings.
